NPACH Media Advisory

New Orleans, LA, June 28, 2007--

Community leaders from tsunami-hit villages in Aceh, Indonesia, and coastal Thailand will be visiting New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast from July 2-6, along with representatives from the Bangkok-based non-profit Asian Coalition for Housing Rights (ACHR). They plan to tour areas affected by Hurricane Katrina and meet with local community groups that are rebuilding and defending their human right to housing. The groups include the Holy Cross Neighborhood Association, Gentilly Welfare Rights Organization, Mary Queen of Vietnam, Survivors’ Village, Gert Town Revival Initiative, Mississippi Immigrant Rights Alliance, and Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church.

The visit is being coordinated by New Orleans-based National Policy and Advocacy Council on Homelessness (NPACH) and the National Economic and Social Rights Initiative (NESRI), and is being hosted by a number of New Orleans-based institutions, including Hope House and the Loyola Law School.
