NPACH Summary of Mckinney-Vento Bill

Read NPACH's summary of the House-passed McKinney-Vento legislation here.

This bill, H.R. 7211, has passed the House. In the Senate, it is currently being held up by Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma. We do not know whether or not the Senate will consider the bill (as a replacement for S. 1518) when they return for a brief post-election session in mid-November. However, there is a possibility that Senator Coburn will lift his hold and the bill will be approved, despite our ongoing belief that it will not allow HUD's homeless assistance grant programs to adequately respond to our current crisis in homelessness - the crisis of family homelessness due to the foreclosure and economic problems facing our country.

We continue to invite your comments on the bill, and look forward to working with you to communicate any concerns to Senate staff. To provide us with feedback, please send email to mckinney@npach.org.
